A Nomadic Refuge: A Framework for Supporting Biodiversity in a Changing Urban Climate Part 2 Project 2024 Oliver Porteous-Williams University of Bath | UK It's important to consider the impact of predicted changes on other species we share this planet with, not just on ourselves. Without the existence of other life, our ability to thrive as a society and achieve sustainability - be it environmental, social, or economic - is not possible. The promotion of biodiversity in urban environments is an essential challenge, which this initiative aims to address by integrating the ecological principles of Enlightening Perspectives, Exploring Prospects, and Regenerating Habitats into architectural design. The concept of the Nomadic Refuge entails a museum that educates, conducts research, and contributes to a more diverse future. By incorporating research-focused and bio-led design strategies, such as biomimetic/liveable facades, and integrating nature-sensitive massing/ spatial arrangements, the building serves as an exemplary model for the city of Nice, promoting a future of ecological stability.This project's potential extends far beyond its current scope, as it acts as a testing ground for the future of Nice and beyond. It showcases how architecture can contribute to biodiversity net gains by replicating its design elements throughout the city.
