The scheme, primarily focusing on the sustainable integration of a primary school within pre-existing urban and natural resources, includes a trainstation, skatepark, community café, hairdressers and hairdressing school. The project takes into account the regeneration of an existing brewery into community smallholdings and start-up businesses with the potential to provide income. A proposed 'piggy-back' pedestrian/cycle bridge provides subsequent extensions to these existing routes.

The impressive aspect of this project lies in its capacity to support an alternative approach to Craigmillar’s redefinition of itself by focusing on opportunities latent within the pre-existing geography of Craigmillar. Five strategic situations are identified for the location of primary schools. Richard’s school is on the edge of Craigmillar. The facilities are deployed in support of cross programming and to act as an interface with the community beyond. The site perimeter is secured by football terracing with market lots beneath. The focus is on education through sustainability and the manipulation of existing site resources.
