The project proposes to resolve community displacement issues and prevent building destruction from natural disasters in Cape Coral, Florida, US. The aim is to re-establish a sense of place by creating architecture that promotes multi-generational and multi-ethnic spaces.

400% Increase in Cuban migrants in Florida has been factored into the design by allowing the building to shapeshift into temporary housing and educational facilities. They are taught a new vocational skill referred to as cassette modular construction. This fast, innovative and sustainable technical solution allows for spatial malleability and can be seen in the composite materiality and dynamic formal features throughout.

In response to flooding from seasonal hurricane events. The building transforms into an evacuation strategy as traditional modes of transport become redundant. A 2-meter concrete plinth protects the structure from storm surges and becomes access docking for boat transit. A newly introduced sky rail intersects the structure, which is accessed on the second floor.

Hybrid interior and exterior “wings” and double-volume spaces are designed for the increasing tropical climate and allow for sufficient shading and ventilation. The project further reduces car density and car parks by improving and hosting new modes of transport, such as tram and boat facilities.
