The Air We Breathe Part 2 Project 2024 Tuvalie Juntti Umeå University | Sweden "The earth is what we all have in common."- Wendell BerryThe North of Sweden is presently undergoing a massive transformation marked by emerging industrial developments, thereby presenting challenges to the area’s economic and social dynamics. The impending industrial investments, notably in mining, are ostensibly aligned with the so-called "green industrial movement," though the reality deviates from its environmentally friendly facade.Numerous anthropogenic processes come with a high price. Beyond immediate ecological damage and heightened emissions at the operational site, these actions indirectly impact distant locations through airborne transmission. Gállok, situated approximately 40km from Jokkmokk in Northern Sweden, faces the impending threat of a potential mine. The Air We Breathe utilizes Gállok as a case study, following the stages of the planning process leading up to the (potential) opening of the Kallak mine. Through mapping influenced by situatedness practice, the project seeks to unveil all the layers, many of which have previously been foreseen. The revealing of the embodied, physical, and phenomenological layers aims to emphasize the need for alternative methods in the planning process that are more ethical towards nature and favor its holistic nature.
