Homerton Green House Part 1 Project 2020 Alfred Hatch University of East London London | UK This scheme aims to address unutilised land around the Gascoyne estate in Homerton. Residents in the area argue that people are not taking ownership of their green spaces. Many Council estates in Homerton are managed in an oppressive top down approach. Events and activities in community halls occur inconsistently and are often cut short due to lack of funding.Community spaces should be run by the community. This project will utilise an existing network of local gardening and non profit groups. In Hackney there is a growing interest in local food production and the community benefits this can bring. By tapping into this existing network of organisations like 'Core Landscapes' and 'Buildup Foundation', who are actively seeking space to grow and build on, the land around the estate can be transformed.A series of self built, light weight timber structures will accommodate local gardening groups. Green houses will operate using an anaerobic digester to convert food waste from the estate into nutrient rich fertiliser and biogas. This Circular economy generated by a food cycle aims to encourage community social cohesions and a sense of ownership of the sur rounding landscape. Alfred Hatch Tutor(s)
