Embracing Urban Ephemerals: Market-Based Socio-Economic Neighborhood Development Initiative Part 2 Project 2021 Thilini Jayasinghe University of Moratuwa | Sri Lanka Architecture as well as urban design and city planning has historically endeavored towards permanence and monumentality by practice. But cities are no more steady but ephemeral. Even the built environment is the most influential component on urban character ever, people in numeral contemporary cities are struggling to facilitate their varying and changing needs due to less responsiveness of built environment.Therefore urban built environment needs to embrace the ephemerality of human needs to make future cities better responsive. This condition is more acute within urban communities and their self-organized public spaces resulting inhumane cities. The notion of “Responsive environments” ascends from the idea that “the built environment should respond its users with some flexible locale.This design project basically focusses on initiating a system to make urban public spaces better responsive by strategically designing the anatomy of built mass., In order to a building to perform, in the same way like in organisms, its anatomy needs to be designed with capacity. Focused Ferguson's street low income community is struggling to operate the socio economic layer including “Thotalanga public market” which is the main pillar of their community due to less responsiveness of the monumental built solutions delivered by the government.
