Andrássy Commission Part 2 Project 2017 Sam Giles University of Westminster | UK In 1873 Buda, Pest and Óbuda were officially merged, creating the new metropolis of Budapest. In 1944 Budapest was captured by German forces, in 1945 by Soviet forces, suppressed in 1956, liberated in 1991 and absorbed into the EU in 2004. The scheme seeks to translate these eclectic eras into an architecture that revisits the city's traditional identity, yet incorporates the scars of regime change that continue to deform it.
