Jamie’s Farm acts as a catalyst for change, enabling disadvantaged young people to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The residential experience combines farming, family, and therapy to re-engage disadvantaged young people (age 11-16) with education.

The concept derives from the reliance on fertilizers to grow foods. Jamie's farm allows children to learn new farming technologies alongside the traditional agricultural methods. The aim of this is to provide a better understanding of sustainable farming techniques and to prepare children to grow organic foods within harsher environments to live healthier lives. These include hydroponic, aquaponic, and vertical farming. Active involvement for the children provides a relaxing experience and an overall sense of purpose during their stay.

The building is arranged to follow the continuous cycle of food from growth to consumption and is personified through the dynamic roof. Along this journey, activity spaces and learning objectives are formed to enrich the user experience.

The form utilises an adaptation of the traditional mono-pitch roof, where the folded zinc roof follows the journey along the cycle with the user, as it grows from the ground to the endpoint. This then restarts once the cycle is complete to highlight the growth of new foods.
