Joo Chiat's Culturious Inn Part 1 Project 2016 Jing Min Tan National University of Singapore | Singapore As a critique of the formal narrative revolving around specific iconography in Joo Chiat (Singapore), the project proposes a backpacker hostel that provides tourists with a live-in experience with shops and businesses. Through informal interactions with shop occupants and residents, the design aspires for tourists to glean stories, aspirations and an insight of the site's culture – embracing that which has fallen in the cracks of the larger iconographic narrative.
