As a response to Totnes’ historical context and community identity the masterplan intends to celebrate the hidden everyday rituals. ‘The funeral' is associated with negative perceptions however the project intends to celebrate life through a procession that incorporates the town. The final stage is the boat builders refuge where craftsmen and grievers come together to construct a boat to carry the deceased down river - altering the perceptions of death.

01. Totnes Overview: analytical town context and conception of propositional materplan – [re]framing the funeral
02. Instigating the Pilgrimage: utilising the initial propositional response of audio archive to instigate the notion of the pilgrimage through a triptych that forms the basis of the line of enquiry

07. Isometric Study: expressing key elements of the pilgrimage through the building and exposing the structural build up
08. Sectional Study: depicting therapy workshop and secondary industrial workshop and the integration of funeral and pilgrimage
09. Elevational Study: contextualising the proposition by demonstrating its proximity to the river and road and highlighting moments of crossing and transition between spaces
10. Construction: model progression and exploration of tectonic qualities
