The Can Ricart Design Lab Part 1 Project 2024 Matthew Harris Birmingham City University | UK Memory and identity, exploring how architecture can utilise the past to grow in the future. Here the scheme aims to revive the historic Can Ricart factory and its surroundings, bringing it back to life for the community to reconnect with.Working with contextual developments to create an educational complex that promotes the process of design and reuse.The proposed Design Lab would become the core of the campus, encouraging experimentation and collaboration to enhance the community voice. Here architectural layers are used to respect the historic narrative, with the refurbished existing building becoming a fabrication layer whilst a new sculptural mass placed on top would become the creation layer.
