THE UNION SITE a industrial wasteland, reconquest element for a urbanity found Part 2 Project 2007 DEMOL Delphine Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-la-Villette Paris | France The places with the most potential from the perspective of the new town planning approach are the industrial zones of the XIXe century. The site of the Union is established in the district of Roubaix, Tourcoing and Wattrelos. It forms part of the new territories coveted by the city. With the origin of this work, the desire is for reconquering the site to find a coherence and urban organization which can overcome the fragmented state of the city. An intervention is necessary to integrate the site into the city. This project is not finite, but an intervention at differents scales on the urban fabric. The outstanding approach and quality of this work lies in the presence of several scales: territorial, urban, domestic. The industrial sites of the Northern Bassin of Lille Roubaix Tourcoing are a cultural heretage which -already transformed in twentieth century - calls for further transformations into territorial landscapes. The modest working-class housing "la courée", the social housing of the fifties, and so forth need new visions of architectural housing quality. Delphins work is experimenting with and questionning these transformations and perspectives. It is in a compelling way both theoretical as well as concrete.
