Plan Obus Hong Kong

Rethinking Le Corbusier's Plan Obus for Algiers, the design brief looking into how it can adapt to the landscape of Hong Kong. Challenging the city's regulation about the untouchable country parks that take up about 75% of land area, the project is located at the Victoria Peak with a total length of 3.4 km. The design revolves around a piece of infrastructure, which is an elevated highway, a drive offering 360o view of Hong Kong Island, along with the proposed wall housing beneath the highway strip. Infrastructure is a big part of Hong Kong, and the project explores the idea of how to use the "dead space" above the slope. The infrastructure will generate a new typology of wall housing with high-density living that provides up to 470,000 m2 of housing. The design implements the idea of inverted living and how it is unique to the conventional bottom-up approach, the highway becomes the new ground, freeing up spaces below. To further connects to nature, the project has to be agile in addressing the ground and how it can have a minimal impact on the environment, using hanging system and carving the void so nature can flow underneath.
