Eco-Climate Commons Part 1 Project 2024 Amar Badawi Sheffield Hallam University | UK Picture Leith as its own autonomous entity, distinct from Edinburgh but united in its commitment to sustainability and climate action. The design of Eco-Climate Commons weaves together past and present, reflecting Leith's legacy and unique Architecture. Curved elements mirror the surroundings, and varying heights harmonise with the topography, maximising views. As the void gets bigger, passive stack ventilation increases, metaphorically amplifying Leith’s voice as the floors rise.My project introduces a hierarchy of spaces within the assembly building to make Leith the UK's first sustainable neighbourhood. The workshop at its core acts as a community hub, fostering information exchange and preparing residents for sustainable practices. The validation chamber facilitates climate discussions, while the ultimate chamber drives action and agenda development.The design integrates spaces for community expansion and economic empowerment, supporting green energy providers, climate charities, and start-ups. This approach echoes Leith's tradition of providing free services, fostering sustainable entrepreneurship and growth.
