Made in Berlin

Part 1 Project 2022
Finley Hartless
University of Central Lancashire | UK
In 2019 35% of Berliners had foreign roots, necessitating the creation of a space for migrants to express their identities and cultural backgrounds. Berlin is recognised as a world city of culture and creative industries. Many young people, cultural entrepreneurs and international artists continue to settle in the city.

‘Puppenfabrik’ aspires to create an architectural typology of production, learning and empowerment; a space in which to imagine, create and view artefacts of memory related to ideas of identity and place. The making, the possession and the display of puppets engages people and creates an opportunity for individuals to engage physically, mentally, and emotionally. Individual stories are performed to help people find their place and create a sense of belonging in a new environment.
