A Continuing Tradition Part 1 Project 2019 Sophia Dias-Hudspeth Queen's University Belfast | UK This project sensitively introduces a nursery school into the historic context of Armagh’s St Patrick’s Cathedral grounds, building upon the tradition of nurture fostered by this ecclesiastical centre in the past. Nestled below the cathedral, this schemes sees the extension of the existing 19th century walls to create a courtyard nursery which draws strong parallels to the walled gardens abutting it. For young children this setting is a tableau of the past and, tantalisingly, of the yet-to-be; this scheme celebrates its physical and historical context, creating an environment where children can learn with a strong connection to their surroundings.
