Since the name of the project is Musicology Triangle, the concept is related to the origin of the word music which is derived from the Greek (mousike), "art of the Muses". The Muses are the goddesses who inspired the creation of literature and arts in Greece. According to the Roman scholar Varro there are only three Muses: one who is born from the movement of water, another who makes sound by striking the air, and a third, who is embodied in the human voice. The three muses are symbolized in the three corners of an equilateral triangle that defines the three main centres of the project. The main concept is the “music effect on architecture”. The design is not limited by one musical era, instead it is created by the origin of the word music, and since music is an art whose medium is sound, it is only felt by the hearing sense, so it is not just a school for teaching musicianship but also for the education of the public visiting the site by feeling music history through architecture.
Musicology Triangle is divided into two parts, a school of music for 800 students and a concert hall for 1200 persons. The school is arranged around the first gathering piazza with the symbol of the water muse at its centre. It consists of a small auditorium and 3 departments; the biggest is the classical department which is placed in the middle between the oriental and modern departments. All departments are attached through bridges into the main building that consists of the entrance hall, the administration and some services. The concert hall consists of 2 buildings; the first includes the entrance hall, a restaurant and a small museum. It is also arranged around the second gathering piazza with the symbol of the air muse at its centre, while the second building consists of the concert hall. It is designed in such a way that locates the last muse of the human voice at the centre of the stage. An equilateral triangle with one muse at each corner is a "Musicology Triangle".
