In choosing his own site and developing his own brief for the building, Maurice displayed an extraordinary depth in his critical analysis and design ability. This ranged from the development of an urban masterplan to the detailed resolution of inventive building elements. In doing so Maurice’s project exemplifies the Department’s ethos in aspiring to the highest design standards, rooted in the application of technical excellence, cultural awareness and the use of independent creative imagination.
