Syrian Parliament in Exile

Part 2 Project 2017
Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture | UK
Hellinikon, Athens exists as a laminate of three historic layers: a former airport, a redundant Olympic complex, and a contemporary refugee camp. Considering the airport condition as a liminal zone of ‘extraterritoriality’, a Syrian Parliament in Exile – together with housing for refugees – is proposed for the site. New interventions interact with repurposed existing structures, including the disused sports facilities, to provide differently scaled spaces of gathering and debate.
