The Ultimate Secret Path [Mountains-Coast and Sea]

Part 1 Project 2022

The project aims to design a ‘Sustainable Airport’ applying principles of sustainability and eco-friendly architecture through a promising conceptualization using successful relationships between spaces which make the passenger’s journey (within the terminal building) enjoyable, safe, and healthy. This aim matches the vision of the Lebanese Government that seeks to refurbish the René Mouawad Airport in Kleyate, North Lebanon, to be the second international airport in the country.

Stretching along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, Lebanon is distinguished by the alternation of lowland and highland, making the 10,452 km2 country rich in its diversity of landscapes.

The project explores Lebanon’s unique closeness between green mountains and sea coast, and was inspired by Lebanese topography and vernacular architecture styles from the country’s different regions.

The site of the project itself brings together these concepts, while the design proposed allow the passengers the replication of the feelings they may experience if they were in the real conditions such as the sea or the mountains.

Ultimately, the airport showcases the unique beauty of Lebanon’s landscape by turning each natural element into a conceptual architectural idea that has a beneficial effect on each passenger that goes through it.
