Part 1 Project 2005

This was a project, which demanded more and more of myself in the hope to achieve true clarity and understanding. Our site was situated between the edge of Brisbane’s CBD and the fringe suburb of fortitude valley.

We were given a great number of diverse programs ranging from residential to a coffee roasting house, in which we had to incorporate within the design. This was made even more challenging with my strong belief that the site required a pedestrian link through the development in order to create a unique inner quality to this harsh a dangerous site.

John's project is a controlled exercise in managing a diverse set of contextual and programmatic conditions. He engaged comprehensively with the process of cumulative exploration of aspects of architecture based around considerations of:
SITE + PLACE
MATERIALITY + TECTONICS
FORM + SPACE
His early generative collage work has found firm footing in the architectural language that characterises the project, which is almost a three super graphic of its hybrid and potentially changeable contents.
