Bradford is beautiful, but why is it not booming?

The declining High Street of Bradford together with the traces of modernist planning have pushed people out of the city centre, forming a monocentric city. Traditionally the retail is the main anchor to a High Street and the new residential developments will not sustain the economic growth nor will it revive the High Street. It needs a collective structure to bring back its former glory of an Industrial City.

Inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities and Leon Krier’s theories on urbanism, the project seeks to provide an alternative to bring people to live in the city. We understand that there are different preferences and needs among the city dwellers and the proposed Communal Villas provide unique places that cater to the needs and aspirations of the people while retaining the charm and character. The proposed is a modern infrastructure for urban living through a network of spaces across Bradford that can be accessed by the Top of Town community. The expanding series of building reuse projects will create places for old heritage to live and new cultures to thrive in a shared living, working and retail environment that is collaborative.
