New International Airport in Brasov, Romania Part 2 Project 2008 Vlad Slavic Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism | Romania Airports can be defined by either limits or buffer zones, and yet they’re both. Always inducing feelings, both positive and negative: excitement, anguish, agoraphobia, claustrophobia: they are places of contradiction. The project’s approach henceforth divides all operated meanings rather then space. Rather than creating another shape the main goal was to think up a new way of resolution. Still the method is overlapping with the aim to bring clarity, sense and orientation.Research and design focus relies in the intent to create a present sculpture in an otherwise absent site, a landmark that people could appropriate. Vlad Slavic Pertinently articulated and substantially carried out through its concept, this project is remarkable in both clarity of thought and manner of presentation. The connections that the airport establishes with the city, the site, its material and immaterial context and its inner functioning generate a powerful new solution. Furthermore, relative to its scale the proposal is meaningful, creative and innovative.Consequently this diploma project becomes distinct due to the engaged originality in solving a functionalist programme by an inventory of well selected psychological means.
