Entangled City/ Reconciling cultural dissonance Part 2 Project 2015 Eoghan HorganKieran Cremin University College Cork | Ireland Our proposal addresses the cultural dissonance between Prague’s history and present day tourist industry. Through extensive drawing, mapping and research into the city’s historical context, we have come to understand Prague as a city formed through an idiosyncratic cultural condition: entanglement, an in-between state where the seemingly dissonant conditions of the ‘real’ and the ‘imaginary’ can be said to simultaneously, improbably and inseparably exist. Our experience as tourists forms the counterpoint to this study. The reductive determinacy of perspective, timetabled activity and spectacle within the context of contemporary tourism highlights a clear cultural dissonance between the city’s past and present. The proposal examines this disparity not as a problem to be solved, but as a loaded opportunity for novel intervention. Entangled City encompasses an urban landscape where the cultural disso-nance between the tourist and the city’s historical context is reconciled. The proposition aims to agitate the reductive activities of tourism through the contextual narratives of historic sites within the city. Each site entangles an element of Prague’s idiosyncratic and contextual history with a form of tourist determinacy.
