Part 2 Project 2020 Thomas SavageWallace Erabu Arts University Bournemouth | UK Although the Projects originate from two different worlds they share a sense of celebration and performance, of playfulness, eccentricity and local culture that can also be seen as universal.The postcard is particularly relevant at this time of Covid 19, where no one can travel and participation in other peoples’ culture is almost impossible, except vicariously, through the internet. Our lives are physically circumscribed.But the postcard is an opportunity to journey in the imagination. It is a democratic way of sharing experience, non-hierarchical and universal – always hopeful. A memorialisation of shared, exchanged cultural experience. Refreshing, in a playful way, the image of the postcard gives the sensation of dipping into another world, often now impossible to capture, but kindling and freeing our imagination. It satisfies our yearning for a another time, another place, those experiences we might yearn for.Both projects are focused on the relationship between architecture and performance. In Durley Chine the emphasis is on the Theatrical and the Baroque, with architecture that is playful, site-sensitive and interactive, engaging with the community.
