This project aims to introduce an architectural identity to the Sincil Bank area of the city of Lincoln through the means of a creative art centre. It comprises of a gallery and exhibition space, creative classrooms and bookable artist studio spaces. The design process was spearheaded by the detailed study of the allotment sheds discovered during the exploration of the area. The sheds in an allotment expressed high levels of identity expressed by the sheds itself as well as the materials added on to the façade by the owners. The explosion of elements that defined programme, materiality and structure followed by the merging of identities of the sheds produced the conceptual model. This informed the form of the design itself. The layered and translucent appearance of the concept is directly by the building itself. The layering of the different materials including exposed copper and Corten steel which is allowed to change over time is similar to the façades of the sheds. The irregular and evolving façade of the building breaks the monotonous nature of the area, hence introducing an architectural identity to Sincil Bank.
