A master-planed collection of buildings along Haggerston Park began with the development of rules affecting the site at various scales. We began to plan and pragmatically develop each of the sites. These buildings sought to act a focus within the community, while the landscaping of the Park also realised links to the wider city. The terms water and wall identify with the changes in scale in which this project aligns with the Park, the borough of Hackney and City. The provision of lavatories within these buildings allows for the creation private spaces within the Public realm becoming an Urban Observatory.

This group design suggests a new inventive way of providing public facilities in the semi-rundown areas of East London: rather than city academies or information boxes, the group looked at the declining provision of public lavatories and how they might be organised in urban areas. Thinking about the elderly, parents with children, and youth lessened the do-gooding though residual ideas of transparency can be noted in the canalised flow from one facility to another. The schemes were not without wit. We were surprised by just how many issues at all levels could be engaged by this project. And it looks like architecture.
