Urban Agro Hub Part 2 Project 2022 Nurin Qistina Binti Abd Rahman University of Malaya | Malaysia Food insecurity is an alarming issue in Malaysia and most developed countries around the globe stem the stress in providing a safe amount of food to all strata of society, especially for the lower-income communities. Our current food chain has too high food import bill, creates no access to healthy food, and worsens climate change. Urban farming is a key factor cited by the United Nations in their Sustainable Development Goals 2030 where it presents Urban Agro Hub as a new building typology that revolves around the circular food system focusing on the integration of urban farming with research and public outreach to obtain food security, self-sufficiency, and community sustainability for the district. The project goal ‘Pollination’ is inspired by the characteristics of the people and Sentul city where it perceives communities as bees to pollinate better environment and expands through mini masterplan to spark new seeds of interest. The design philosophy involved theory of experiential learning, and biomimicry architecture as its design language. Through an intensive study of the building ecosystem exploring nature, tectonics, and communities, it aims to be an architectural prototype for a circular food framework which can be implemented in the rest of the region.
