Space for the Mind Part 2 Project 2019 Suraj Makwana Mackintosh School of Architecture | UK Cities are never simply ageing artefacts or relics. A network of tensions manifest in an ever-changing organism which we define as an ‘identity’. Buildings are subject to decay, inhabitants migrate, and nature shapes the foundations of our environment. Instead of trying to grasp the nostalgia of the past and become fixed in this process, can a building be a place which embraces the impermanence of its setting? This thesis explores a space for the mind; a monastic sanctuary within the city of Antwerp where one can detach, perceive this change, and ultimately return to their ongoing rituals. A space which embraces transience. Suraj Makwana Tutor(s)Mr Mark Baines
