The Warrengate Market scheme is a medium sized closed continental market facility that creates the opportunity for social interaction through the space of food. A double height rectangular volume literally bridges across a dual carriageway and makes an existing route more prominent to link two segregated parts of the city together. A range of social, ethnic and economic issues are explored throughout the schemes development in addition to the practical aspects of the building typology such as construction detail, ventilation and acoustic considerations.

This project offers a new multi cultural market facility within the centre of Wakefield. The original urban gesture to raise the building above the surroundings allows a possible reuniting of two areas of the town that have been disconnected. Within this gesture he has created a number of environments for the consumption and display of food. These are carefully integrated into the overall composition. The proposal shows a mature understanding of materials and their relationship to their urban context. Overall the body of work is mature offering an intelligent understanding of how one might deal with a fragmented urban environment.
