In the 20th century, air travel has become a much more convenient method of transport. It is now cheaper and more popular than ever before. With this ever increasing demand Nottingham East Midlands Airport with its central location is lacking in sufficient facilities to meet the needs of its future consumers. The proposed International Terminal and masterplan development would increase the airport’s turnover by 10 million passengers per year.

Designing a new terminal building was a challenging project both in scale and complexity. Understanding the circulation through any airport shows the level of importance of the relationship between public and private sectors and the divide that must be maintained. Whilst appreciating the need for high security the design was created to evoke the image of flight. With a sweeping front façade and curved docking promenade the terminal has spacious atriums and impressive suspended viewing platforms, this all helps make Nottingham East Midlands an airport to remember.
