Reification of a Closed Community Part 1 Project 2023 Zach Hunter University of Lincoln Lincoln | UK Sincil Bank sits centrally within the heart of Lincoln and boasts a high degree of community despite a noticeable disillusionment of its urban fabric. Where problems lie are the stigmatisms and prejudices that ‘outsiders’ possess of the area, born from the notoriety of detrimental edge conditions and lack of social exposure, closing off such a vital organ of the city. This project intends to reify Sincil bank for both locals and outsider groups, providing a conduit for ingress and egress, opening the region for social exchange. The site will host reflections of the engineering and ceramic heritage of the area via means of community driven pottery studio and exhibition hall, granting locals and visitors career pathways for a dying trade or simply leisure.Additionally, an adjacent restaurant, sitting alongside the dyke that supplies Sincil Bank will reflect the rich cultural diversity present in the area through its menu choices and décor. The aim of this project is to provide and suggest routes and activities for the user within the site, which in turn will increase the level of exposure experienced in Sincil Bank, a starting point towards shifting current perceptions.
