The Workstation

Part 1 Project 2022

The workstation explores the theory behind the spatial composition of co-workspaces and how they can influence productivity, job satisfaction and how they are now relevant more than ever before due to the pandemic shaping the way we will live and work in the future.

This project aims to bridge the gap between the two sides of Welwyn branching out in all directions feeding into the bridge over the train track.

The inspiration for the forms of this design came from the context of the site on both an intimate and large scale: the map of Welwyn Garden City. With that in mind, the divided sections were manipulated to engage and interact with each other in keeping with the initial concept of bridged separate buildings. The proposed building has been carefully designed around the context the openings of the building create different links to the building from each of its surrounding districts.

Aside from sustainable materials and technology, the project encourages of sustainable means of the transport such as cycling and walking. The railway bridge now leads directly into The Workstation where people can pass through and experience the space without their route being unwillingly diverted.
