Rural Catalogue Part 1 Project 2019 Grant MacgregorMartha HallidaySophie AgneGregor HughesNathan LangLeanor Costa PintoWilliam GibbsSigi Whittle Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture | UK ‘Rural Catalogue’ is a project which challenges the norms of architectural education. In order to do so a large group of students – known as jig collective – worked together to widen a semester’s scope of work. By combining eight people’s resources – their time, their skill sets and their experiences – jig aimed to engage with a real-life community through the vehicle of a community owned island – Isle Martin. Conversations and the establishing of interpersonal relationships with community members became the core of jig’s output. This was realised through ongoing communication with them. These factors formed the basis of jig’s architectural response which was predicated on their stories and narratives. Jig’s process was and is forever evolving – it has become a ‘playground of ideas’ where successes are measured in it’s value as a learning experience. Tutor(s)
