Is it possible to create a city with no centre?
The project imagines a vacant, Australian totemic hardware store in a Melbourne fringe suburb to become an opera, a city and an experiment of urban protest. Made from a series of moving baroque stages to test adjacencies of suburban place – the roof, front window, street corner etc. – the inhabitants tinker, discover and wander new models of regulations, resistances and distractions.

An Altona North vacant Bunnings, the suburban church, a monument, evolves to contain a gridded up-scaled urban componentry display market.
Here, it's always a Sunday. A thick application of texture contained in a green shed-church of possibilities promotes start and end redistribution.
Surrounding is a reciprocal display environment of componentry and regulation which is reflective of and built in to the suburban aisles and homes of the Australian sprawling landscape.
They wander the streets of a unitary retail suburbanism with dusty boots, between the deconstructed presence of potential to tinker, alter and reinterpret.
A stagnate environment with a code of minimums is re-imagined to a set of possibilities to trigger resistance and distraction, promote breaching, centrelessness, and an accessible 'city', ultimately for the continuous dérive of its inhabitants.
