Hotel and Public Space in Bucharest

The project speculates the lack of meeting places and places that are suitable for social activities. Wanting to solve the problem of the missing piazza, the building creates a large void - as a center of gravity – that is in fact the starting point for more than one routes through the biulding. A series of public spaces that open towards the piazza: exhibition hall, library, restaurants, cafees, offers a great varitey of choice in the usage of urban space. The private area of the hotel floats somewhere above leaving room for as much public space as possible.

The heterogeneous image overlaps on the traces of the old urban tissue, in an area affected by uncontroled succesive interventions. The implantation tries to put in good use and mediates the existing tensions of the site, into a space that concentrates fluxes and public activities.

The general situation consists of a former dense urban tissue, but which has suffered serious damage durring the 70´s an 80´s. some of te site´s features are the lack of public urban space and unity in style, as well as the presence of residual space
Study of urban intervention and masses. The area is in a continuous process of develpppment so we have to consider what is to come. A high buliding is to be built on the spot of the actual parking lot - so less space for activities in open air
General View. The new is growing out from the old but in the same time it is a response to present social needs. The back curve volume is in connection with the old seven storeyed bulding behind and through it´s shape it creates continuity
Views from the parking lot and from behind. The metal volume floats over the inner piazza creating a shelter and a point iof atraction
View from inside the urban public space. Multiplle connections with the inside. The hotel offers it´s public spaces to the city -see the glass box which is comlpetely opened toward the street and piazza
The fluid shape creates a slow move towards the cafe bar and terrace from the firs floor. In the same time it creates a coexistance between the public and the private extending the borders of the street insibe the parcel.
Southern and Northern Facades.
Western Facade. The metal shutters offer a dinamic image, protection against the strong sun rays and also the posibility of choosing the level of privacy in the rooms
