Inspired by Metabolism architecture, this thesis proposes turning an abandoned shophouse in Lorong Haji Taib, Chow Kit, into a Self-Sustaining Stateless Ecosystem. This approach views the building as a dynamic, evolving entity that adapts to societal needs. The project involves integrating new structures on top of the existing building through vertical extensions using scaffolding. The design features four key components: the Operational and Resource Center, Community Learning Center, Transient Shelter, and Collaborative Hub.

The plan begins with stabilizing the current structure and then uses scaffolding for modular expansions and infill systems to enable vertical growth. Prefabricated, lightweight modules minimize disruption and allow for flexible adaptation. Community involvement is central to the design and development process, ensuring the project aligns with local needs and fosters a sense of ownership.

The goal is to revitalize the abandoned shophouse, providing a resilient and inspiring center for the Chow Kit neighbourhood. The Metabolist approach creates a sustainable, adaptive environment that supports community empowerment and development. This project offers a replicable model for urban regeneration through adaptive reuse, creative design, and active community participation, addressing pressing socioeconomic issues and setting a new standard for future urban renewal efforts.
