Riverside School Part 1 Project 2012 Marisol MuñOzConsuelo MoralesJaviera Balut University of Chile | Chile Chile’s natural water resource constitutes an important and striking source of motivation in various aspects. However, our national architecture has yet to explore this area as an opportunity for creativity and development. This is how the anxiety to create an architectural project that incorporates the sea into itself is born. This project would tie an educational structure with the values and richness of this natural resource which surrounds Chile in all its extension. Maullin is a city in the south of Chile that enjoys the privilege to be at the shore of the river which carries the same name as the city. Since Maullin is located next to the stream mouth that joins the river with the Pacific Ocean, it enjoys a rich and diverse aquatic life. Maullin’s unusual location and biodiversity has led to the development of artisanal and industrial fishing which are the city’s main activities. This educative project focuses in using the river as a means of transport as well as for productive and economic development. This way the school will be a key factor for the wellbeing of Maullin’s citizens. The structure will guide the city as a lighthouse with the purpose of representing what the school means for the community: an open, public and urban agent that transcends time.
