Education Against All Odds: Liberating Learning from the Circle of Despair and Hope

Education against all odds, aims to sustain childhood education necessary for an effective response against poverty in Kenya where the pandemic of HIV/AIDS corrodes the capacity needed for that response. Children in such contexts are either infected or affected by AIDS, thereby developing complex cognitive, social, and emotional needs. Thus, facilitating foundational renovations in the method of imparting education within such abrasive contexts is what this project strives to achieve.

Image 5:- Empowering Livelihoods: Employing a 'Jiko' (Ceramic cooking stove) making community, we co-designed a modified version of the conventional stove design so as to create a false ceiling that would help thermally insulate the classroom.
Image 6:- Flexible furniture invokes a flexible layout thereby invoking a flexible and an iterative form of learning.
Image 7:- Spatial Equity: Equity by design, need not necessarily reflect by considering everyone as equals, but rather by acknowledging the imbalance in knowledge and power and yet providing a level playing field; ergonomically in this case.

Image 9:- Composting 101: Teaching children how to convert waste to food so as to make the schools existing feeding program, self-sufficient.
Image 10:- School Farm: To instill a pragmatic form of imparting education; we integrated farming into the school curriculum. Today the farm grows Kale, Ginger, Tomatoes, Watermelon and Mango; thereby increasing the nutrition value per plate of the school
