Le Sanctuaire D‘Acier Part 1 Project 2020 Connor McGregor Leeds Beckett University | UK The European Refugee Crisis is a rising issue with no current resolution. Paris and other large European Cities have thousands of refugees seeking asylum every week with limited shelters available. In many occasions, refugees seek shelter under bridges and near abandoned railways to protect themselves. To tackle this issue, a large scale Refugee/ Asylum seeker shelter will be constructed in between 16 live trainlines. The site is necessary to connect asylum seekers and Refugees into Paris through various transportation routes whilst also creating a safe space to guide them through to Citizenship.The project is intended to be a self-sustained hub in which Asylum seekers and Refugees can learn new skills, grow their own food, and live their lives with their families. To give back to Paris and provide employment for its inhabitants, the shelter follows the sites historic roots by repairing abandoned and damaged train carriages for use in the metro. Additionally, the repaired train carriages would be used for Temporary shelter and to transport Refugees to the site. Connor McGregor Tutor(s)
