Museum of Contemporary Art, Nugegoda Part 1 Project 2024 Siriwardana Mudiyanselage Chanaka Suraj Siriwardana University of Moratuwa | Sri Lanka The contemporary art museum is situated in a rapidly evolving context in Sri Lanka, which is one of the major educational hubs in the country. Inspired by the enigmatic nature of the contemporary art, the building creates a space which sparks curiosity and invites exploration. As the contemporary art conceals profound meanings beneath subtle surfaces, the museum houses a world of excitement and imagination beneath the monolithic exterior. It is presented as an entry point, encouraging visitors to delve into the unseen world.The museum presents a layout which is kept intact by the circulation, while expanding its spaces through a variety of spaces. It features three distinctive galleries which appeal to different artists and audiences, which ultimately leading to the climax of the journey. As visitors descend in the building through the gallery spaces and the transition spaces in between, they are expected to gain a lasting memory about the art, and the purpose of art as a medium in the rebellious, yet vibrant and playful context of Nugegoda. The museum itself becomes a work of art, and a canvas for the artists to express themselves and make an impact on the lives of the people of the region.
