Ciudad Bolívar is a locality situated in southern Bogotá, Colombia whose occupation intensified since the 50´s as a product of the forced displacement due to the armed conflict violence. Currently, Ciudad Bolívar has an impressive artistic and cultural diversity that unfortunately is being overshadowed because of its high violence and poverty rates. The objective of The Museum of Urban Art of Bogotá is to take advantage of the community’s artistic and touristic potentials without altering the essence that makes the locality unique.

The museum is conceived as a sustainable project that makes use of alternative energies, is implanted in a sensitive way as the extension of the streets of El Paraíso neighborhood. The aim of the project is for the community to take ownership of it by participating in workshops on different urban art expressions like graffiti, rap and urban dance.

Definitely, architecture is a very powerful way to positively impact people. The museum’s social and environmental focus pretends to articulate the city and the world through the urban culture to break stereotypes and reject violence and segregation.
