My design proposal is located in Kop Van Zoid in the city of Rotterdam. The area used to be an important port with docks, shipyard and a terminal for ocean-going liners, but all these activities were terminated when the port closed in the 1960s. Nowadays, the area consists mainly of underdeveloped residential units, with low educational achievement and high unemployment, making it more difficult to attract investors. Despite the rapid economic growth of the city, Rotterdam is facing a housing shortage. The lack of lands has become scarce and the demand of the increased population has increased dramatically.

To contribute toward reviving the neglected area socially, economically and environmentally ,a set of cohousing units are proposed. Garden city consists of three interconnected units with communal spaces that bounds the residents and the neighbours together through the various activities that take place throughout the units. To provide the occupants with facilities that generate income and keep the units running, commercial units are designed at the ground floor that can be rented or used by the occupants. To enhance the social activities throughout the units, long corridors been designed acting as unifying and social devices that connects people together.
