Deconstructing the Connection Between the Philosophy of Martin Heidegger and the Architecture of Peter Zumthor

When analysing practising architects, architectural theory is a retrospective speculation of intent. Consequently, Peter Zumthor is an interesting case; his media-shy mystique offers little theoretical context for his architecture. Despite this, and in an age in which theoretical positions are obligatory, many propose that his design methodology is informed by the philosophy of Heidegger. This research deconstructs the methods used, in order to draw theoretical conclusions from the built environment.
