A Reading of Bankside Through the Eyes of W. G. Sebald Part 2 Dissertation 2018 Adam Hill Newcastle University | UK As a counterpoint to the narrative of progress that characterises the regeneration of Bankside Power Station into the Tate Modern, this essay comprises a re-reading of the building’s history through the lens of W. G. Sebald. An analysis of Sebald’s encounter with Somerleyton Hall aids a critical reading of Bankside’s written history and helps position its existence as a ruin between 1981 and 1993 as a time of critical potential.
