A Territorial Project: The projection of the ‘Common Good’ in the art and architecture of Siena’s Palazzo Pubblico, 1297 - 1345 Part 2 Dissertation 2018 Chloe Loh University College Dublin | Ireland This essay argues that the ‘Common Good’ was a significant ideal in the medieval commune of Siena by highlighting its embodiment in the art and architecture of the Palazzo Pubblico, the seat of government. Ultimately, the essay frames the active use of the ‘common good’ as part of an intentional striving towards the physical reality of a ‘good commune’, thus leading towards the ‘ideal’ or ‘good’ city of the Renaissance.
