Between Two Bridges: Close walking public realm in a mile or so

'Between Two Bridges' explores the city through a method I call 'Close Walking' - a way of understanding architecture and urban space through first-hand observation, layered with historical research and critical reflection.

Walking a one-mile stretch between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, the project becomes both a personal journey and an urban study. The aim was to look beyond surface appearances and examine how spaces are shaped by power, ownership, and memory.

Combining narrative writing, site photography, and theoretical references, the work reveals the tension between the public realm and increasing privatisation. Inspired by the literary practice of Close Reading, this methodology offers a slow, attentive alternative to conventional site analysis. The outcome is a layered account of place - part essay, part map, part critique - that invites others to see walking not just as movement through space, but as a tool for understanding it.
