The establishment of a juvenile detention centre is urgently crucial in Lebanon due to a significant rise in youth-related crimes since the beginning of the millennium. To address this necessity, a level 4 design studio in the Spring semester of 2023-2024 focused on "Architecture and Behavioral Correction," specifically targeting a 'Juvenile Rehabilitation Complex' in Beqaa, Lebanon. My approach centred on the psychological aspect, introducing the concept of a 'Bridge of Wellness' as a symbol of positive transformation for inmates. This metaphorical bridge acts as an agent of transformation, linking different zones of the project and guiding individuals through various stages of rehabilitation towards societal reintegration. Furthermore, the bridge symbolizes a hand offered to the juvenile to guide them from obscurity to illumination. Architecturally, I emphasized discipline and strictness by opting for a steel frame structure for this transformative link. Furthermore, the design incorporates eco-friendly features like solar cells, green roofs, and double-glazed elevations. Overall, the design exudes an industrial aesthetic, reflecting my advocacy for greater youth involvement in industry and conveys a message to the government regarding their rehabilitation and prospective outcomes.
