This project explores what happens when we begin to treasure everyday items and records of ordinary people. The archive collects the objects and records of people who live in towns and villages along the Leeds - Liverpool canal. Its architecture bestows value upon collections of previously overlooked ‘everyday’ objects. It questions our existing attitudes to what we choose to commemorate.

‘The Northern Ethnographic Survey of ‘The Everyday’. Perspective from Garden.
Post industrialised Airedale Valley. Like a mantelpiece laden with selected mementoes, this is an urban setting that has been part preserved to retain a sense of identity.
A mapping model of the Airedale Valley, which inadvertently highlighted the ‘icons’ of the site.
A programme that both references and contrasts with the idea that some mementoes from the past are to be commemorated while others are overlooked.
The Proposal in its context. A cluster of Buildings to house the Survey, the Collection and to cele-brate 'The Ordinary' through a Public Registry Office Gallery.
