For all of human history food has been used to connect people, it has been a collective culture, history and a way to create alliances and mend discourse.

In the shared experience of a meal, people have exchanged ideas, firmed bonds and set aside differences. Food embodies a collective memory which makes heritage food, foods that have a long history within a culture, particularly important.

Yet, as populations grow and global warming creates climate challenges, human society will need to adapt to continue to maintain food security.

Gwledd Neuadd will introduce and protect various ‘future foods’. These non-conventional foods offer new sources of protein, energy and nutrients as well as being kinder to the planet in their production. But dietary preferences are a deeply personal choice and often based on individual experience, so the population can be reticent to adopt such alien concepts. Here these new foods will be introduced alongside Welsh heritage foods, the unknown alongside the known. The dietary changes that will need to be adopted for the planet to survive are introduced in an interesting and stimulating way that again brings people together to set aside their differences, promote discussion and create a new collective memory.
